Buying a Ride-On Car in Canada: Shipping, Duties, Warranty and Winter Tips

Many Canadian parents still call every kids electric car a "Power Wheels", the name of Mattel's famous brand (we explain why in this article). Whatever you call it, a ride-on car is a big purchase: a box that can weigh more than 100 lb, a battery that hates the cold, and a toy your kids will use for years. Buying in Canada comes with its own questions. Here are the answers.

1. Where does it ship from?

This is the first thing to check. When a ride-on ships from the United States, you may pay customs duties and brokerage fees at the door, and returns or parts can take weeks. At FreddoToys.ca, orders ship from our Canadian warehouses, prices are in Canadian dollars, and there are no duties or customs fees. Read more in Amazon vs. buying direct.

2. Shipping cost and delivery time

  • Free ground shipping across Canada on all orders, with no minimum.
  • Orders are processed within 2 to 3 business days, and you get a tracking number by email.
  • Some remote or northern regions may need extra transit time.
  • Local pickup is available in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia: contact us before ordering to arrange it.

Full details in our shipping policy. Ordering a gift? Order early in the holiday season, when carriers are busiest.

3. Check the box on arrival

Inspect your order as soon as it arrives. If anything is damaged, contact us within 3 days of delivery with photos, keep the packaging and wait before assembling. You can also add SafeShip at checkout: if your package is lost, stolen or damaged in transit, we send a replacement or refund you directly, with no carrier forms.

4. Warranty and support

  • Every ride-on bought at FreddoToys.ca has a Freddo warranty (30 days full coverage, parts up to 6 months).
  • You can add the Freddo Extended Warranty for 1, 2 or 3 years. It starts on day 31, with no registration and no deductible: your order number is your plan number.
  • Lifetime support and genuine spare parts for every model we sell. Find parts in our spare parts store or book a virtual appointment with a technician.

Good to know: batteries are not covered by the warranty, and water damage voids it. See our warranty and returns policy.

5. Support in English and French

FreddoToys.ca is fully bilingual: product pages, guides and support are available in English and in French.

6. Choose the right size and power

Start with your child's age, then the number of seats and the voltage:

7. Plan for winter

Ride-ons are not waterproof. Snow, slush, puddles and wet grass can damage motors and electronics, and damage from water, snow or cold is not covered by the warranty. When the snow arrives:

  • Charge the battery fully and store the ride-on indoors, in a dry place.
  • If you won't use it for more than 30 days, disconnect the battery.
  • A ride-on car cover keeps dust off in the garage or shed.

Over the winter, push cars and 6V ride-ons are perfect for indoor play.

8. Buy the real thing

Licensed ride-ons carry the real brand's design and badges: our range includes officially licensed Can-Am, Arctic Cat, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ford, Chevrolet, Range Rover, Toyota, CAT and Vespa models. Freddo Toys has been making ride-ons since 2006 and partners with BRP on its Can-Am kids range.
