How to choose a ride-on car for your child
Kids electric cars come in many shapes and power levels, so it helps to start with three simple questions: how old is your child, how many kids will ride at the same time, and where will they drive? Your answers narrow this collection down very quickly.
Match the voltage to your child's age
Battery voltage is the easiest way to compare power. Use these ranges as general orientation and always check the age range listed on each product page:
- 6V, roughly 1 to 3 years: gentle, low-speed first rides for toddlers. See all 6V ride-on cars.
- 12V, roughly 3 to 6 years: a step up in power for confident preschoolers. Browse our 12V ride-on cars.
- 24V, roughly 3 to 8 years: more power for grass, gravel and two riders. Explore 24V ride-on cars.
- 36V and 48V, older kids: bigger machines with higher top speeds. Compare our 48V ride-on cars.
One seat or two?
If siblings or friends will share, a 2-seater ride-on car saves a lot of negotiating, and two-seaters generally list a higher maximum weight than single-seat models. For one driver, a smaller one-seater is lighter, easier to store and perfect for a first car.
Driveway, lawn or trail?
Smooth driveways and paved paths suit almost any model. For grass, gravel and bumpy backyards, look at off-road ride-ons such as UTVs, dune buggies and 4x4 trucks, which are built to handle rougher ground.

Safety and everyday use
Ride-on cars are toys, but they are still little vehicles. A few habits make every drive safer and more fun:
- Supervise every ride. An adult should always stay close by, especially with toddlers and with faster 24V, 36V and 48V models.
- Start slow. If a model offers more than one speed setting, begin on the lowest one and move up as your child gains confidence.
- Use the parental remote when one is included. A parental remote lets you steer and stop for a beginner; the product page tells you whether a model comes with one.
- Choose the right surface. Driveways, park paths and flat lawns are ideal. Keep away from streets, steep slopes, pools and wet ground.
- Respect the weight limit. Every listing shows a maximum load; on two-seaters it covers both riders together.
- Look after the battery. Follow the charging instructions in the manual and store the car indoors, away from freezing temperatures, during the Canadian winter.

Ride-on cars FAQ
What are toy cars that you can drive?
They are battery-powered ride-on cars: your child sits in the seat, uses the pedal or throttle to go and steers just like a real driver. They range from small 6V toddler cars to large 24V and 48V models for older kids.
Which ride-on car is right for a 6 year old?
Most six-year-olds are ready for a 24V model. Many of ours list ages 3 to 8, and some are aimed specifically at older kids, like the 24V Freddo Dune Buggy Buccaneer XXL, listed for ages 6 and up with a 220 lb capacity.
Do you have big ride-on cars for older kids?
Yes. Look at our 2-seaters and 48V models. The 48V Freddo Beast XL dune buggy seats four, is listed for ages 14 and up and carries up to 330 lb.
What is the difference between a battery ride-on and a push ride-on toy?
A battery ride-on has a motor, so your child drives it with a pedal or throttle. A push or kick toy is powered by little legs or a parent's hand. For the youngest riders, see our push and kick ride-on toys.
Do you deliver kids electric cars everywhere in Canada?
Yes. We offer free ground shipping across Canada, plus local pickup in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.
Are electric ride-on cars battery powered?
Yes. Every electric ride-on car runs on a rechargeable battery, 6V, 12V, 24V or 48V depending on the model, and comes with its charger. If you ever need a replacement, see our ride-on car batteries.
Is a Freddo ride-on the same as Power Wheels?
Power Wheels is a brand of kids' ride-on cars, and many Canadian parents use the name for any battery-powered ride-on. Freddo is a different brand that has been selling its own and officially licensed ride-on cars in Canada since 2006. Read how Power Wheels became the name for every ride-on car.
