Choosing a one-seater car for your child

A single-seat ride-on is often a child's first car: it is sized for one small driver, it is lighter to carry and easier to tuck into a garage or shed. Here is how to narrow down the options.

Start with age and power

As a general orientation, 6V suits roughly 1 to 3 years, 12V roughly 3 to 6 years and 24V roughly 3 to 8 years. Each product page lists its own age range, so always check it:

  • First rides: our 6V ride-on cars include toddler favourites listed from 18 months.
  • Preschoolers: nearly every vehicle in our 12V ride-on cars is a one-seater, from sports cars to fire trucks.
  • More power for one: single-seat 24V ride-on cars, such as the licensed Can-Am Renegade and Maverick, reach 8 km/h.

Pick the style your child loves

Little builders go for diggers and dump trucks, future racers for a Porsche or a Corvette, and adventurers for an ATV or a motorbike. If two wheels or four-wheeler handlebars are the dream, see our ATV ride-ons and motorcycle ride-ons.

Check the weight limit

Many one-seaters in this collection list a maximum load of 66 lb (30 kg), which is right for the age ranges they are built for. If your child is close to the limit, step up to a larger model.

No battery yet?

For children who are not ready for a motor, the Porsche 911 Carrera GT Foot-to-Floor Ride-On is listed for ages 1 to 5. More options live in our push and kick ride-on toys.

Safety tips for solo drivers

  • One seat means one rider. Never let a second child squeeze in or stand on the car, even for a short ride.
  • Stay within reach. A one-seater driver has no co-pilot, so an adult should supervise every ride.
  • Start on the lowest speed. If a model has more than one speed setting, begin low until steering and braking feel natural.
  • Use the remote if there is one. Some one-seaters include a parental remote; the product page tells you which.
  • Helmets for bikes and ATVs. A helmet is a smart habit on motorbikes, quads and faster 24V models.
  • Flat, dry ground. Driveways, park paths and level lawns, away from streets, slopes and pools.

Getting your one-seater in Canada

We offer free ground shipping across Canada on our one-seat ride-ons, and local pickup in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. Because single-seaters are compact, they are also easy to bring indoors for the winter months.

1-seater ride-on car FAQ

What is a 1 seater car for kids?

It is a ride-on vehicle built for one child: a single seat, a pedal or throttle, and a steering wheel or handlebars. It is the classic first electric car.

Is there a one-seater car for older kids?

Yes. The 24V Audi Union Typ D is listed for ages 6 and up, and the 36V Freddo e-Chopper is designed for riders aged 6 and up.

What is the smallest one-person car for a toddler?

Look at our 6V models, such as the 6V Freddo Ride-On Dinosaur for 18 to 36 months, or a foot-to-floor ride-on for the very first steps.

How much does a one-seater car cost?

Prices depend on voltage, size and licensing, and each product page shows the current price in Canadian dollars. For lower-priced options, browse our budget-friendly ride-on cars.

Should I choose a 1-seater or a 2-seater?

Choose a one-seater for a single child or a first car. If siblings will ride together, see our 2-seater ride-on cars.
