How to choose a 2-seater ride-on car

With two kids on board, you need enough power to move both riders, a seat wide enough for two and a weight limit that covers both children together. Here is what to compare.

Combined weight comes first

The maximum load on a two-seater is for both riders together. In this collection it ranges from 66 lb (30 kg) on the smallest models to 220 lb (100 kg) on the largest, so add up your children's weights and leave some margin.

Voltage and power

Carrying two riders takes more power, which is why our two-seaters run on 24V or 48V. As a general orientation, 24V suits roughly 3 to 8 years, while 48V is aimed at older kids. Compare our 24V ride-on cars and 48V ride-on cars.

Age range

Most two-seaters here list ages 3 to 8. A few larger models, such as the Lamborghini Revuelto and the Mercedes Maybach G650 brushless, are listed for ages 6 and up.

Style and terrain

Luxury SUVs and pickups suit driveways and paths, while UTVs and dune buggies are made for the backyard. For grass and gravel, look at 4x4 ride-on cars and UTV ride-ons. For sleek two-seat coupes, see our sports car ride-ons.

Safe driving with two on board

  • Both seated before moving. Make sure both children are sitting properly before the car starts, and that nobody rides standing or on the back.
  • Agree who drives. One driver, one passenger: switching seats only when the car is stopped avoids most bumps and arguments.
  • Use the parental remote when included. Models such as the GMC Denali and the 24V Freddo Tractor Trailer list a parental remote, so you can steer and stop if needed.
  • Lowest speed first. If a model has more than one speed setting, start low; a heavier car with two riders needs a little more room to stop.
  • Supervise and choose flat ground. Stay close, and keep to driveways, park paths and level lawns, well away from streets and pools.
