How to choose the right ride-on car battery

A replacement battery has to match the one already in your child's ride-on. Check these three things on the label of your current battery before you order:

Voltage (V): 6V, 12V, 18V or 24V. It must be the same voltage as the original. Never put a higher-voltage battery in a ride-on built for a lower one. 48V models such as the Freddo Rocket and the Beast XL use two 24V batteries.
Capacity (Ah): 4.5Ah, 5Ah, 7Ah, 9Ah, 10Ah or 14Ah. Use the same Ah as your original battery: the battery compartment, the wiring and the charger of each model are made for it.
Terminals: clip terminals are spring clips that snap onto the battery posts; screw terminals are ring connectors bolted to the posts. Ride-ons have shipped with both types in different production runs, so look at your battery before you choose. Several of our batteries come in both versions.

All of these are new original (OEM) replacement batteries with maintenance-free AGM technology: you never need to add water or acid. They are UL Recognized Components. You re-use the cables and hardware already in your ride-on.

Making a ride-on battery last

Charge the battery fully before the first ride and after every use, with the charger that came with the ride-on. If you need a new one, see our ride-on wall chargers.
Follow the charging time in your ride-on's manual and unplug the charger when it is done.
Over the Canadian winter, store the ride-on indoors and top up the charge about once a month so the battery does not sit empty.
If the ride-on slows down or stops after a few minutes even when fully charged, the battery is usually at the end of its life and it is time for a replacement.

Ride-on battery FAQ

Can I put a 24V battery in a 12V ride-on car?

No. Always use the same voltage as the original battery. A higher voltage can damage the motors, the control board and the wiring, and it is not safe for the child. If you want more power, look at a 24V ride-on car designed for it.

What is the difference between clip and screw terminals?

Clip terminals are spring clips that snap onto the posts; screw terminals are ring connectors bolted onto the posts. The battery has to match the connectors on your ride-on's cables, so check your current battery before ordering.

Do these batteries fit other brands of ride-on cars?

They are sold as replacements for Freddo ride-ons, and the compatible models are listed on each product page. For another brand, compare the voltage, the Ah, the terminal type and the size of your current battery; we cannot guarantee fit for models we do not sell.

Do the batteries need maintenance?

No. They are sealed AGM batteries: you never add water or acid. Just keep them charged.

Can I return a battery?

Spare parts, including batteries, are final sale and cannot be returned, so please check the voltage, Ah and terminal type before you order.
